FSC - Forest Stewardship Council

As we are ever looking at ways to be responsible for our usage of paper last year we completed the certification to become FSC certified.

FSC is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. It was founded in 1993 in response to public concern about deforestation and demand for a trustworthy wood-labelling scheme. There are national working groups in more than 50 countries including the UK. FSC UK is a registered charity.

It is supported by NGOs including WWF, Greenpeace and the Woodland Trust. The FSC runs a global forest certification system with two key components: Forest Management and Chain of Custody certification. This system allows consumers to identify, purchase and use timber and forest products produced from well-managed forests. The Forest Stewardship Council’s “tick tree” logo is used on product labels to indicate whether products are certified under the FSC system.

When you see the FSC logo on a label you can buy timber and other wood products, such as paper, with the confidence that you are not contributing to the destruction of the world’s forests. FSC UK is legally and financially independent of FSC international. It sets forest management standards for the UK, promotes the system and provides an information service. We now have the ability to add the FSC logo to all of our products. It is a great way to show you care about the environment and fair trade. Eagle Printers accepts that our day to day activities have an impact on the environment; however we are committed to minimising the effects of our business on the environment.

We are committed to:-

•    Obtained ISO 14001 in January 2012!

Environmental Practices

Paper

Eagle Printers promotes the use of re-cycled paper and paper from sustainable sources to all our customers.

•    We have FSC certification and we promote the use of FSC accredited paper
•    All waste paper is re-cycled
•    All work is planned to reduce the use of paper to a minimum

Plates

New computer to plate technology has eliminated waste water from the plate making process and significantly reduced other wastes.

•    Plates are made from aluminium which is recycled

Inks

•    We use eco-friendly vegetable based inks.
•    Waste ink is collected by a licensed waste disposal operator

Equipment

Equipment used in our production processes is regularly maintained to ensure that re-work is kept to a minimum and the production equipment operates efficiently.
Environmental considerations are important criteria in all new equipment purchase. This includes energy efficiency, efficient use of resources and the minimisation of waste.

Packaging

The use of packaging is kept to a minimum consistent with avoiding damage to the products
